African Insurance Awards

The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) hereby expresses its sincere gratitude to all the participants and Judges of the just-concluded 11th Edition of the African Insurance Awards, which was held on Sunday 7 June,2026 Cairo, Egypt.

We also express our gratitude to the over 1,000 insurance professionals and stakeholders who attended the event, making it one of the most memorable in the industry.

The following are the winners of the four categories of the awards:

INNOVATION OF THE YEAR: Turaco Microinsurance Limited, Kenya

Turaco Microinsurance Limited of Kenya ranks first in this category largely due to its product: ASA LifeCare

ASA LifeCare is the result of a strategic partnership with ASA Microfinance Kenya which uses the microfinance infrastructure as a point of access for insurance by embedding the policy directly into a customer’s financial journey. This eliminates the need for customers to make a separate transaction to buy insurance cover.

The simplified claims processing time of 4 hours allows customers to easily submit documents via WhatsApp.

ASA LifeCare is an exceptional insurance product for low-income communities. It has already enrolled about 250,000 active policies in Kenya and insured about 500,000 across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria within 4 months of its launching. Its effectiveness is further reflected in the high customer satisfaction levels reaching a positive Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +42 as of November 2025. This demonstrates the rapid growth potential of ASA LifeCare product.

INSURTECH OF THE YEAR: DigiBima Agent, Tanzania

DigiBima Agent App won this award. The application is an innovative digital insurance platform designed to transform livestock insurance for smallholder farmers using recent technologies. It uses cow muzzle biometric identification technology, which leverages the unique patterns of a cow’s nose, similar to human fingerprints, to create a secure and tamper-proof identity for each insured animal.

The method significantly reduces fraud, improves claim authenticity and drastically simplifies claims settlement.

DigiBima Agent App ensures uninterrupted operations in remote areas through its offline capabilities, with automatic synchronization once connectivity is restored.
