We are excited to announce that the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) will host an Agriculture Insurance Workshop in Accra, Ghana. This pivotal event is scheduled for July 10-12, 2024, at the prestigious Labadi Beach Hotel.
This workshop presents a unique opportunity for delegates from across Africa to converge, share knowledge, and collaborate on developing the agriculture insurance market in Ghana and the broader West African region. We are proud to facilitate this gathering of key insurance industry stakeholders and external partners.
Our participants will benefit from our technical insights and from the perspectives of our esteemed guests, who include representatives from insurance companies, finance institutions, government agencies, multilateral institutions, and farmer representatives from within Ghana and the rest of Africa.
Throughout this three-day event, we will showcase innovative agriculture insurance solutions that have the potential to revolutionize the agriculture insurance landscape in the region. The objectives of this workshop are anchored on the need for increased investments in Agriculture insurance to spur sustainable and profitable growth of this class of business in the West Africa region using experiences from other African markets.
We recognize the immense potential of agriculture insurance in stimulating the overall development of the agriculture sector. However, we also acknowledge that the West African insurance market faces many challenges, including a limited pool of agriculture underwriting expertise and constraints in adopting technology. These factors have contributed to the generally low adoption rates of agriculture insurance programs among target beneficiaries.
Africa Re is committed to continuing the dialogue with relevant partners on supporting the industry in developing the requisite skills and capabilities needed to offer agriculture insurance solutions to the market. This workshop is made possible through the technical cooperation agreement for the Nigeria climate insurance project between Africa Re and the International Finance Corporation- IFC.
The workshop will officially be opened by the Commissioner of Insurance Ghana. The three-day event will be packed with insightful presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and a field trip to the Kpong Irrigation Scheme at Asutsuare, the largest irrigation scheme in Ghana.
